About

There are 3 different programs in our department.

* Department of Textile Technology

* Department of Shoe Design and Production

Shoe Design and Production Program was established in 2008 and had its first graduates in 2011.

Our aim is to provide trained, qualified workforce that researches, follows technological and artistic innovations, designs products, produces and markets what it produces, and takes place in the industry in line with contemporary Atatürk principles.

The most needed element in the shoe industry is the intermediate staff working as a conduit between the management level and the employees. The aim of the program is to train successful, qualified intermediate staff sought and desired by businesses in the shoe industry. Our goal is to close the intermediate staff gap.

Our graduate students, having a competitive advantage, will have the knowledge and experience to design shoes, prepare a design collection, draw the model of the shoe, prepare the ornaments and accessories, prepare patterns, sew the upper part and produce the prototype by using 2D and 3D computer programs as well as their handcrafting skills in accordance with fashion trends

The program also provides education and training on occupational health and safety, workplace organization, materials and machinery, production planning, management, labor law, cost control, purchasing, advertising, marketing, leather technology and quality control.

Most of our graduates work in various parts and branches of the industry in which they were  educatied and trained.

Our graduates can transfer to undergraduate programs in Leather Engineering, Textile and Industrial Engineering, Handicrafts, Fashion design and Textile Apparel departments with vertical transfer exams (DGS).

LEATHER TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

One of the three programs providing associate degree education in the field of leather technology in Turkey is Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Gerede Vocational School LEATHER TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM. "Leather Technology" is one of the oldest programs of our School.

The aim of the Leather Technology Program is to train leather technicians who can use today's modern technologies required by the leather industry, who can solve the problems of the sector in a technical sense, who have a good command of the processes starting from raw hide to finished leather.

No matter how much technology, machines and chemicals develop in the sector, there is always a need for technical manpower to manage them. Leather Technology Program has the mission to meet this need.

Gerede, known as the "City of Leatherworkers", is on its way to becoming Turkey's leather production center. Gerede is the most vibrant leather production center in Turkey. Leather production in Gerede Leather Specialized Organized Industrial Zone is carried out with world-class facilities, automation systems, machines, and chemicals. Leather Technology Program is in intensive relations with Gerede Leather Industry.

Why Leather Technology?

It is one of the three associate degree programs that provide education on leather in Turkey.

Compared to associate degree programs that produce thousands of graduates a year, graduates have a huge advantage.

Especially for well-trained and enthusiastic technicians, the door of the sector is always open.

Most of the managers and foremen in the sector are also graduates of the Leather Technology program.

It is possible to work not only at the national level but also in the whole world leather sector.

Where Do Graduates Work?

Well-trained and open to self-improvement people can easily find jobs in tanneries, leather chemicals, leather products producing and marketing enterprises, shoe industry, leather garment industry.

There is always room for technical staff who can use and manage information in the sector.

Leather business is also a fashion business. Therefore, not only men but also women can be very successful in leather production because they are more sensitive to aesthetics, finishing and colours.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

The workshop of the program has the equipment and facilities to transform raw leather into finished leather. In addition to the theoretical courses, practical applications are also intensively involved. After completing 3 semesters, students are trained for a semester in enterprises in the leather sector in the 4th semester. In this way, they can adapt to work in the sector more easily.
